Tune associated with Piper Caulfield of Liscat, Aghamore (b. circa 1814).
Tony Moran (b.1899) of Aughtaboy was a box player and fiddler and descendant of Piper Caulfield. He emigrated to the US in early 1900s where he had a band for several years.
Joe Byrne recorded a performance of the tune by Nóra Rooney, née Toolan (1898-2000) of Kilchun, Knock, for Boscaí Singil – Ten Single Row and Melodeon-Style Accordionists from East Mayo (Dreoilín, 1994). She picked up this old reel in her youth during visits to house spraois at Moran’s and always called the tune by that name.
