Collected from John Henry, Doocastle, 1966. Although John had no name for this tune his brother Kevin credited it to Patrick Hunt a flute player from the townland of Gowlan, Doocastle. He was better known as Patsy Seán Nancy or Patsy John Ann being called after his father and his grandmother. Patrick Hunt’s father, Seán Nancy was a piper and a flute player.2
Alternate titles include An Ugly Customer (in the key of A in O’Neill DMI:623, MOI:1373), After the Hare, The Cassagh Reel.
A number of other tunes are alternatively known as Patsy Seán Nancy’s e.g. The Gowlan Road.
